    I noticed this closed support thread and wondered if there is a workaround without modifying core files.

    Perhaps a conditional can be made to know when images are being searched versus accessed in media library?

    Are we able to rewrite the function and replace it from within functions.php?

    Unfortunately, there isn’t a workaround available right now other than using custom code. I understand this isn’t ideal, but modifying core files is currently the only way to achieve the functionality you’re looking for.
