First, Pagespeed Insights Score is excellent in mobile, but the “performance” score dropped significantly in desktop after you optimized.

    The Issues

It appears to have somehow broken the loading on the main menu (slow loading) and the main slider area (also slow image loading) on the desktop version in initial search results for the website.

It caused the menu drop down to appear first (instead of the main page) in the mobile version on both the initial request for the website and also when requesting other articles.

I did clear my phone cache and desktop cache before testing.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @fergystravel ?,
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

We would like to inform you that the delayed JS functionality you are experiencing is designed for speed optimization. It ensures that JS execution is triggered only on user scroll/tap, resulting in faster loading times. The element-rendering scripts won’t execute until prompted by actions from page visitors, so you need to tap/scroll first to get page elements.

While you can disable this delay, please note that it is critical for better website performance scores. We would recommend leaving it in place, as users tend to start interacting with websites right away.

Therefore, there are two options available:

    1. Leaving the delay in place, which means that sliders will require first interaction to load, resulting in a better final speed score.
    2. Disabling the delay, which will allow sliders to start loading right away, but the speed score will likely be worse.

Please let us know which option you would prefer, and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for choosing our services, and we remain at your disposal for any further inquiries.
    Regards, Mane

    Hello Mane,

I had seen your response in another slider question, so am aware of your explanation of the slider issue. I was hoping that you folks had found a fix for it that moderated the delay somewhat. As far as the slider issue is concerned, I will leave it the way it is…..however…..the second issue with the main navigation menu on mobile needs to be addressed.

Just to get a little more detailed here…when you access the website on a phone, you get the main nav menu, with the search box on top, in what looks like a “page” format. If you touch any category, it will go to that page immediately without displaying the main nav “page”. If you then use the 3 slash drop down menu and attempt to go to the home page, you end up again on the main nav “page”. If you touch that main nav “page” in a blank area, you will finally get to the real home page.

I have asked several friends to briefly “test” my mobile site, and this issue is the first thing they ask me or bring up. Where is the home page like on the desktop? Although the younger generation may instinctively figure out how to get to the home page, my target audience is not necessarily “tech savvy” and they want things to work as close to their desktops as possible.

I really like the scores I am getting with your plugin, and would signup for the pro version to optimize all my categories, info pages, and pillar posts if I could just solve this final issue.

It’s just this one issue that I need to have fixed, or be given a way a newbie like me can fix it, so it does not conflict with your plugin?

    Thanks, I await your reply.

After careful investigation of the issue we have made changes to the Delay JS functionality. Will you please kindly check if the issue is addressed?

    Hi Mane,

As you suspected, performance is significant worse — pagespeed insights shows peformance scores of 46 on mobile, and 64 on desktop.

I have an email into the Theme Designer to see if he can figure out the issue and give me the procedure to fix it.

Please revert back to where you had it before your latest update and I will take the issue from here.

    Thanks,

    Fergy

    Hi Fergy,
Sure, I have reverted my changes back.

Meanwhile I would advise checking the following guide. You can locate and exclude the navigation menu files from JS Delay. This way the speed will not be affected heavily.

    Regards, Mane
