Slow Image Uploads

    I started using this plugin to upload images to to my BBPress site and I am finding that the upload speed is slow. Any tips on what to check to speed up my image uploads? I have set my max upload size to 7 MB. For example if a user attempts to upload an image that is 4mb it takes about 45-60 seconds to complete the upload. The resulting file in my wordpress media directory is 4mb. Any way to compress this?

    Internet speed is not an issue here, tested down speed of 70mbps and up of 35mbps

    Upload is done by the server, it has nothing to do with my plugin. When the server gets a request from browser, it uploads the file to temp location, then WordPress processes the file, and my plugin gets it. My plugin doesn’t modify uploaded files after upload, so there is no way to make it smaller after upload.
