Hi, I have a website through WooCommerce and the Storefront theme. I am happy with the site’s overall speed and use a very good caching software.

However, when I want to add an item to the basket/cart it takes a lot longer to load than all the other pages on my site- around 5 seconds. That is the only URL that causes me issues.

I have read through all the forums and others seem to have the same problems but I haven’t seen a clear resolution. All my plugins are up to date.

I have deactivated all the plugins and reactivated one by one, when I only have WooCommerce and storefront activated I still have the same issues. I am not sure what is causing this. I appreciate any help.

    Hi @rachealay!

There are several contributing factors to the slowness of a site, most of which can be found in the following troubleshooting documentation:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/troubleshooting-a-slow-site/
    https://woocommerce.com/posts/woocommerce-site-slow-fixes/

With that said, have you had a chance to put your site through a service like https://gtmetrix.com/ to see where it might be coming from?

If you haven’t already, could you please work through the documentation I linked to above, to see if that helps?

Please let us know how it goes.

    Cheers!

Hi, thank you for your quick response. I have looked through all those pages.I have tried all the recommendations. I don’t have issues with any other pages on my site just the cart page. My site is not slow, the cart URL is.

I have put my cart URL through GTmetrix already many times and the same thing that comes up is that ‘reduce initial server response time’.

Server response time is an issue with your server rather than your website so I suggest that you contact them.
Interestingly, when I tested your server response time I got an average of 76ms which is not too bad:

I suggest you ask your hosts if they can suggest why the response time is apparently slow.

I did have a quick look at the cart by purchasing an Anele Large.
The cart took around 11 seconds to load which is pretty slow so I looked at file sizes and found that the product image is 1meg in size.
This much too large for a fast site so I suggest that you get someone to optimize your product images to be nearer:

    • 800px x 800px
    • less than 200kb
    • JPG rather than PNG

I hope that helps you to figure it out.
Feel free to get back to us if you have further questions.

Thank you so much for your response and help! I will take your advice and look into that as well as contact my host.

That sounds like a plan, @rachealay. So I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread. Cheers!
