Slimstat is very slow on WPML site

can you go to Slimstat > Settings > Basic and turn off the option to show Slimstat’s widgets on the Dashboard? Let me know if that helps.

The setting is to auto refresh every 10 minutes. But there isn’t any time at all visible and it don’t autorefresh at all.

And I run this plugin on another site with exactly the same settings for Everything, and it works fine there.

Some something seems to mess things up…

Didn’t make any difference. Disabled the plugin for now. But would really love to use it… Have been using it on my other site for several years, and very happy with the information the plugin provides.

Something must be different between the two sites: plugins, wp version, php version, MySQL configuration. Could you please check those and let me know? Also, do you have Browscap and Maxmind installed on both?

Yes, the plugins differ as the site with problem is running WPML, WooCommerce and plugins to extend WooCommerce and the other site is just providing information and blog posts etc.

I will paste the WooCommerce Status report here which displays all information about the site, plugins etc. Please note that I uninstalled SlimStat for now. Please see if anything can give you a clue why the Access log don’t autorefresh and the slow site performance when enabling SlimStat.

This configuration looks fine to me, more than enough to handle the kind of load that Slimstat adds to the system to record page views and other information. Are they both hosted on the same provider?

Yes, they are. Just different accounts, to not steal performance from each other. And I checked everything I could think of. But everything is the same, PHP version, php entensions, php settings and so on.
Do you think it could be another plugin that interferes with Slim Stat?

It could be that WPML is causing the problem. Would you be able to test WPML on the other site to see if it causes the same issue?

Sorry, only have license for one site, so can’t do that. Both sites are live to, so can’t play around to much.

Curious if this has to do with the fact that I run 2 different languages and using the feature of WPML to have separate domain names for both languages.

So Swedish site is: https://www.armsportbutiken.se

And English site is: https://www.armsportstore.com

But both are actually same site and same install. Just a thought, that it might confuse Slimstat that visitors are on two different domains?

@armbreaker could you setup a clone of your live sites just for yourself? In that case even if you don’t have a valid license, WPML should work anyway, no?

I did as you asked and setup a clone site. Found what kills the auto refresh and affecting performance. AND this kills the autorefresh even on the site Without WPML, so it isn’t connected to that. It is the Async mode. If it is on, auto refresh of the Access Log dies and the times disappears.

This is also the cause for the performance degradation. If Async is disabled, the performance of everything done on in the Admin Panel is obviously much more responsive.

Would like to add that I run WP Security on both sites and have pretty tight security settings. Could this play a role in this somehow blocking the Async feature? Or is it a bug with that feature plain and simple?

Just tell me if you want access to the clone install and I would be happy to let you try yourself.

Thank you for experimenting with this. It’s really helpful information. I can definitely look into the countdown timer not working with autorefresh, it must be a bug. As for the performance issue, it feels like the security plugin is detecting too many requests in a short period of time (which is caused by the concurrent ajax requests initiated by the various reports) and it slows them down. Maybe it makes sense to stagger requests over a few seconds, so that they don’t happen all at once. I can definitely look into implementing that. In the meanwhile, does it work better if you disable Async mode?

Yes, much better. Have installed Slimstat on the live site now, so will let it be active for now and see if everything is working as intended.
