• I’m trying to figure out how one would be able to make an automated Slideshow for the sidebar or anywhere else of all / any pictures they have uploaded into WordPress.

There are some plugins that sort of do what I would like, but none of them really implement it the way I think would be the best. I know there is Nextgen, but to my understanding you can’t get it to automate anything from the WordPress content / media / upload folders so that’s pointless.

I was hoping by now someone would have built some additional plugin functionality like this to work with the built in gallery but I haven’t see it. Am I not looking in the right place?

Right now I’m using the Random Image plugin, but the problem with it is that it displays full size pictures instead of creating thumbnails (to reserve bandwidth).

    Any help is appreciated.

  • I dont know of any plug in out there that does what you are specifying, I had to create a custom template where one of the categories was “images” and any image that was added to that category would be rendered by a flash widget (that I built of course) as a slideshow.

Now that you mention it it might be a good idea to wrap it as a plugin and distribute it but not sure if that is exactly of what you are after.

That’s sort of like what I was thinking. I’d probably rather use tags though. I guess I could probably do it myself, it’s just I have never actually designed something from the ground up on my own. I’d be willing to test it out for you though.

Oh and I would like it if that when I clicked on the thumbnail it took me to the post that is associated with it… ??

Cool, I’ll see if I can build mine into a plug in (or widget) but if you build one to that would be nice ??
