  • Hi,

I don’t know a lot about AMP, but I don’t see the JS files being loaded on that site. I believe that’s the expected AMP behavior though, right?

I received some feedback from the AMP plugin Support:
Yes, custom JavaScript is not allowed on AMP pages, so the plugin will automatically remove it in order for the page to be valid AMP. (Read more about the AMP Specification and how the WordPress plugin works)

When you check the AMP > Validated URLs admin page from the WordPress Dashboard, do you see your URL and the MetaSlider plugin listed for placing invalid markup on the page?

    >What would be the correct way to handle this?

    You have some options:

    1) You can inquire with the authors of the MetaSlider plugin if they would consider providing compatibility with AMP.

    2) You can use an AMP-compatible slider to implement on the site. For example, Jetpack’s Slideshow block is compatible with AMP. Feel free to also browse our ecosystem page for compatible themes and plugins.

    3) You can choose to “Keep” the markup (JavaScript) on the URL, but it will no longer be served as an AMP page.

    Hi,

We’re not planning on adding support for it at this time.

I’m not sure if it’s possible (or worth the effort), but could you swap out the slideshow depending on the page being loaded?

You might be better off with option 2 if you need to maintain AMP pages.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Just so you are aware

    Sessions by device:
    Mobile: 73.5%
    Desktop: 22.7%
    Tablet: 3.8%

I will look further into AMP support. I do like your plugin and hope you take a closer look

Google announced they won’t count AMP for any metrics so I don’t think it’s worth it to add an implementation. And given Google’s track record, AMP could just as easily be abandoned all together sooner than later.

    Here’s that announcement: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2020/05/evaluating-page-experience.html

Our next iteration of MetaSlider, however, will be a rebuild with primary focus on speed. Development on that starts soon!
