Slider not working

I installed this theme because I like the way the banner has 3 images at the top to showcase work. However I have added a “post” and it is not showing that top image section like the theme advertises. I have updated the Theme Settings to show carousel, it says it is set for most recent 3 posts. I published a test post, but a carousel is not appearing at the top of the page. I am really hoping that the part I like most about this Free Theme is not a paid upgrade.
