the ‘inserting the slider with shortcode’ seems to be working best for me – but still not working properly.

I don’t really understand how to use it as a widget. I don’t have a section called ‘First Front Page Widget Area’. As for the last option – I’m not sure what you mean by ‘placing in my theme files’.

I’m pretty new to WordPress.

Any idea why the slider is not working?

Can you not see my screenshots? I can’t give you a link because I’m testing this on ‘staging’ so that it doesn’t mess up the ‘live’ site.

Can you give any help without the link?

It can be cause by your theme error. But could you please put the slider on the page and take a screenshot from the browser console?
