  • Hello!

For your first slide you used image that is almost square, while the slider is horizontal. So your image was resized, and that’s the result. It works like this: when you upload an image WordPress generates different sizes as defined in the theme. Depending on theme settings those images are hard cropped to match certain size, or not.

    Thanks for your post.

So, how do I fix this? And, FWIW, when I originally uploaded all 3 images, even though some were portrait, they were all stretched to fit the horizontal slider. The dimensions were larger than 980×380.

All slider images should be horizontal, and min 380px heigh. Higher images will be cropped. If you want more control you can prepare images that are exactly 980px wide, to make sure they won’t look weird or stretched.

Do I need to re-upload images?

I edited this image in WordPress to 981×336, and saved it, then used this image as Featured Image, but the slider is still pulling the *original* image.

You might need to regenerate thumbnails. Since slider uses custom size, editing image in WordPress might not produce the results you want. As I mentioned earlier if you want to make sure your image won’t be resized in unexpected way, prepare and upload images that are 980px wide.

Yes, I ended up just creating new images that adhered to the specs. It seems best, though, to also create an image that is only 380 px wide. What would happen if the image was 980×1000? My guess is it would only show a portion of the shot.

I have no idea if it’s possible from a coding perspective, but it would be really helpful (and a better UX) to have the slider use the updated, edited image, especially when WordPress and everything else recognizes the image as being edited/re-scaled.

Thanks again for your responses and your suggestions. Definitely a great theme overall!

Actually it does use WordPress built in mechanisms for handling images, I wasn’t re-invnting the wheel here ?? The theme defines custom thumbnail sizes and that’s it – it’s WordPress job to generate those etc. So I honestly don’t know why your edits were not applied, I’m gonna have to look into this some time.
