slider height pushes content down
-
Hi
in my site https://www.cute.pt the slider pushes the content down… why?
-
The ability to use a loading icon and prevent content from being pushed down is a feature only available to paid license holders. There is an option to select to use a loading icon which will dynamically set the height of the slider based on image dimension ratios and the width of the container to prevent content jumping.
If you are interested in purchasing, you can do so here: https://soliloquywp.com/
what??? the free version of this has a bug so people buy the premium version?? I’m giving it a 1 star rating this is outrageous
It is not a bug. It is an effect of initializing the slider at the window.onload event, the proper event for initializing a slider. Because image dimensions are not realized until the window.onload event, there is a discrepancy between the initial and realized height of the slider.
You are more than welcome to define a height in CSS to avoid this issue, but the slider will no longer be responsive.
What is outrageous, however, is that you would complain about a plugin that is released to you absolutely free. Be grateful you have access to it at all in the first place.
the height attribute must be defined for which class?
cheers
So you are saying that:
1) Without the CSS fixed height definition the slider will appear broken because it does not know the dimensions of the image it is to display.
2) With the CSS fixed height definition, the slider will not appear broken, but the slider is no longer responsive.
I have to say, that bug renders this plugin as being just another slider, and NOT a responsive slider. And yes it is a bug if you wish to call this a responsive slider.
So you release a half working plugin in hopes to fish up sales and then get defensive when someone calls you out on it. Thanks for doing the community a favor. Please don’t do us any more favors.
As a gesture of goodwill, I’ve added that feature into the Lite version of the plugin. You can select to display a loading icon to prevent content jumping.

It’s not that the plugin is half-working. It works, but not in the way you envision it. ?? Regardless, I’ve added the feature to fix the bug.
Hey Thomas amazing plugin
Just a sidenote, I don’t know if my case was the exception or the rule but even after I updated the plugin my content was still jumping. (Yes, I ticked the box inside the plugin)
The loading icon would appear, but the content would still jump. Anyhow, a super simple (I’m no CSS whiz) height definition to :
.soliloquy-container .soliloquy
Thanks for the tip, fixed that right up…Is that the most optimal approach?
Thanks again. I tried at least 5 sliders before Soliloquoy and this one rocks
I love the plugin, too, but have the same issue with the page loading–it is very slow to fill out the page. I’ll consider buying the plugin to fix it, but if Thomas put the fix into the free version, I don’t see it working, so I don’t want to buy it unless it works the way I want it to.

How do I do the .soliloquy-container .soliloquy thing in CSS? What file do I put it in.
I’m using the Suffusion Theme.
Help would be greatly appreciated!
I checked the box to use the loading icon but the text below the slider still jumps. I don’t understand the significance of:

or how to implement it.
I am not using Lite. I think the slider is well worth the modest price.
I’m also enjoying Soliloquy very much, but triggering the loading icon option in a slider isn’t working for me — the slides still wait to load and then shift all content down.
Installed at this time.
With 3 child theme Genesis Framework , pushes the content down
With Twenty Twelve, pushes the content downUninstalled and thrown in the trash.
Only a waste of time.now when I use the slider everything aligns perfectly. Thanks so much for this wonderful plugin!

https://www.ppcaa.org/wordpress (not released yet)I use the Suffusion theme, and have used no other theme for the last several years. I love it, too! I’m gonna marry it…
@michelefree
your sites are NOT responsive.macrunner: Oh. I forgot that there was a difference–it’s been awhile since I’ve messed with the setup. What does “responsive” mean again?
