i was just wondering what the best way to add a slider would be. more specifically, i’d like to replace the featured image on the home page with a slider. is that an option for the edin theme that i’ve overlooked? would you suggest a certain plugin? should i update the .php in a custom theme?

i’m new to wordpress but very familiar with html/css and would like to hear your thoughts!

    thank you in advance

The easiest route to add a slider would be to use a plugin. I don’t have any specific ones to recommend but I’d suggest experimenting until you find one that meets your needs:

    Good luck!

sadly, i’m still struggling with this. i don’t know where to replace the featured image on the home/front page. i think i’ve found a good content slider that has the options that i’d like but i don’t quite know how to replace it. do i create a child content-hero.php and delete the featured image code? or do i alter the child css of the hero to not show? if i remove the featured image, will the text still appear on the page?

    thank you for your patience.

How to implement a slider really depends on the plugin you’re using and its instructions for implementation. If the plugin requires modifying any of the theme files, you’ll definitely want to do that in a child theme so your changes aren’t overwritten every time you update the theme.

Here are some guides in case you haven’t made one before:

    https://vimeo.com/39023468

Usually a good plugin comes with some documentation with examples showing how to implement the features. If you have other questions after checking the documentation, you could ask in the plugin’s support forum.

thank you for the response. I am familiar with how child themes work but i checked out your links anyway.

there was a lot of documentation for the slider (Meta Slider) and they even had a thread on their blog about placing their slider only on the home page (https://www.metaslider.com/full-browser-width-sliders-using-template-includes/) in case anyone is curious.
