slider doesn't seem to respond to image size change and images overlap

I’ve tried many different options to get the plugin to work but I’m having the same problem each time.
The image does not re-size according to the plugin parameters I set and I can see the next or previous image behind the new image. Plus all images in this banner are exactly the same dimensions but they go from top to bottom in the visual window of the slider and don’t seem to be consistent.
I was also wondering if it were possible to take out the grey box surrounding the entire slider?
