Slide height doubles and slide does not clear in Nivo

I got a slider set up just the way I wanted it, and it looked great in the preview, but once I published it, there is something really funky going on with both the height, and the clearing of the previously slide. The first slide displays correctly, but as soon as the second slide is activated, whether manually or by autoplay, the first slide doubles in height and becomes a background to all of the subsequent slides, which load over the top half of the first slide. Also the crop position settings are not working. They are set to Top Center, but instead they are cropping from the bottom. What the heck??

I have tried different Effect settings, different Image Crop setting, and have deleted, replaced and rearranged the images, but nothing works.
