• Hello,

My home page shows up in a Google search exactly how I want it to – except there is no word Home or similar to show it’s the front page in the results just the phrase Skip to Content.

When I inspected the live page I noticed this text in amongst everything –

Skip to content

Is this normal for this Theme – should it be there? I’m baffled as to how to fix the problem and would like to get it done for the next time the crawlers can’t to work. I’ve not installed any SEO plug in, this is just the standard WordPress theme as I’m a first-time user.

Thanks in advance for any advice that can be shared.

Edited after original post: the text I added above seems to have created a URL (blue underline Skip to content looking like a link)

I’m not seeing that with my own site.

What’s the URL of the site with the problem?

Hi

It’s https://www.2mpy.com

Could it be because I left the site title blank in gettings/general page. I will see if this is the case. But that doesn’t get around the fact that I also get the skip to content message an all my other pages too.

Yep, that’s it. Google will record the title first, and if that’s not there, it will just look for whatever text it can find next.

If you want to dictate what Google displays, you need to start with a title.

Thanks @macmanx . I will see if there is any change over the next couple of weeks following crawls.

Hello
Just reporting this below in response to my Skip to Content query earlier. I’ve been informed that each page has …

Skip to content

… at the top which is hidden from normal view with …

.screen-reader-text {
height: 1px;
margin: -1px;
overflow: hidden;
}

Therefore Google spiders are still able to pick up the text and add it to the search results.

Can this be changed and updated?

That’s what makes your site compatible with screen readers, so no.

With an actual title, Google will begin to index that.
