    Hi there,

I’m a relative newbie to the blogging world and don’t have much coding experience.

I’ve recently started using Sketch theme on https://www.theglobalcouple.com.

One of the features of this theme is the ability to put a small logo to the left of the site title, which is what I would like to do. However, every time I put the logo there the drop down menu displays BEHIND the image slider (Metaslider plugin). When I don’t have the logo there, the menu displays as it should, in front of the slider.

I wonder if anyone can tell me if there is some code that I need to insert somewhere to stop this happening? I would really like to get my logo up there so it doesn’t look so plain.

I have looked up the theme documentation and cannot find a solution there.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Petra

Hi Petra, Sketch comes with a built-in slider that matches the look-and-feel of the theme, so perhaps you could do without the slider plugin? It looks very similar to the one you have active now, and you can see it in action here:

    https://sketchdemo.wordpress.com/

Just tag the posts you want in the slider with a word – could be “featured” – and then set that same word as the tag in the Customizer in the Featured Content section.

If you really want to keep your plugin and need further help troubleshooting the site logo positioning, I’d need to see the problem in action to be able to help further. If you have a copy of your site on a development server, you can add the logo there and folks can take a look.

    Hi Kathryn,

Thanks for your response. I’d love to use the built-in slider that Sketch has, but I can’t work out how to set it up! I’ve tried adding certain tags in the Customise > Featured Content section, but nothing happens. I thought that the slider could only be on the portfolio page. I don’t want the portfolio page as my front page, I want to have my blog posts as they are currently and the slider above (essentially the look of the home page at the moment).

Am I missing something really simple?

    Thanks!

You’re right, the slider in Sketch only works if you use the Portfolio template on a static front page. Since you want your front page to display blog posts, I guess the plugin is a good workaround!

    Yeah – I thought so!

Still not sure what the issue with the logo is though – even when I remove the slider plugin and try to upload the logo the menu on the right side still goes behind the stuff below (the title of my blog post, the sidebar widgets).

I don’t have a copy of my site on a development server (nor do I know how to get it onto one), is this hard to do?

    Thanks!

    Hi Petra,

The basic idea with having a copy of your site on a development server is to have a second copy of your site hosted somewhere where you can test things out before making changes to your actual site. The WordPress codex has some tips for running a development copy of WordPress, or you can contact your website host for their advice on setting up a development site with them.

If that doesn’t sound like something you want to try, and you’re ok with making the change to your live site, you can just add the site logo back to your site at https://www.theglobalcouple.com and we can take a look at it there. That will help us see what’s going on with the logo there.

    Hi,
I’ve now changed my theme and don’t have the issue any more! Thanks for your responses though ??
