• I’m having a problem with how sites are rendering – it seems to have started since the the upgrade to 4.1.1 and I wondered if anyone else is having similar problems.

If I look at the website using my PlusNet Fibre broadband, all the formatting has gone. The main Nav items are all listed one under another, only the Alt tags for images are displaying. This happens whether I use Chrome, Firefox, Safari or IE. It happens on my computer, my husband’s computer and my iPad.

If I switch to connecting to the Internet using my 3 MiFi connection, the sites all look OK.

Plus when I try and login to WordPress, (when connected via fibre) all the layout and formatting for that has gone as well.

It doesn’t seem to affect all sites – only those with a particular hosting company. I’ve checked with the host and they say they see the sites rendering properly.

  • hey there

mind sending a link to the site so i can see what happens on my connection?

also, are you running any caching plugins on the affected installs?

    Hi

I’m not using any caching plugins. Here are links to 2 affected sites plus a link to a screenshot of what I see when accessing one of them:

    luciahairart.co.uk

    Thanks

Something is preventing your css from loading. Firewall settings?

Looks like the linked style sheets are not loading.

When I remove this css file it looks just like your screen shot.

I haven’t changed any firewall settings and everything was working OK yesterday. Also, if I just change the provider I use to connect to the Internet, using the same computer so same firewall settings, etc I see the site with the correct layout.

i’m getting the correct layout too from two WANs up here in Maine.

I know you said you tested multiple browsers over the fiber connection, as well as multiple devices. That makes me want to rule out the router.

do you have the ability to hardwire to your fiber modem and rule out a hijack of your router’s dns?

    Hi Everyone

I’ve tried accessing the sites this morning via my fibre link and they are all rendering OK, as is the WordPress dashboard when I log in.

The problems I had with the WordPress dashboard would be explained by the css files not loading.

Why the css files sitting on a particular server would not load is a mystery to me and the hosting company say that they hadn’t done anything with the servers during the day.

Thanks for the attempts to solve the problem. Just hope it doesn’t re-occur.

i’m glad it’s all set. sounds to me like somewhere along the fiber channel one of the ISPs is caching soem stuff. if it happens again please let us know the symptoms and we can dig with you.

feel free to mark this thread as resolved if you like
