Sites not working

  • I’m having a problem with my multisite that came up when I was bounced off of my hosting and now trying to re-establish.

    I can access the main site https://matthewslaats.com/projects/ and the admin.php.

    But when I try to access the subdirectorysites (https://fallkill.matthewslaats.com/projects) I get a page not found. This happens also when I try to go into the wpadmin for that page.

    I did try updating the network.

    Am thinking it could be an issue with a dedicated IP address or my htaccess file, but not sure.

    The install sees the site, but for some reason the url is just not working.
    Any ideas?

    Super grateful for any help.

    Go look at https://fallkill.matthewslaats.com/

    You likely didn’t map your subdomain correctly on your webserver. Your subdomains need to point to the main install of WP (by default they like to be in their own folders).

    Just wanted to add to this. I’ve been in touch with my hosting. So it seems like my Dedicated IP was lost and now the DNS had to be reset. I believe that has been done.
    I’m still not getting anything and since I manually installed I have to figure this out on my own.

    From what he told me, I’m missing the sub-domain folders in my multisite which then I can point to using the subdomain. Right now my wp-content folder is as follows.

    wp-content

    blogs.dir – with various numbered folders holding the content for each site that I’ve created.
    mu-plugins – nothing
    plugins – various plugins
    themes – various themes
    upgrade – nothing

    Still baffled by this.

    Any help is appreciated.

    He’s wrong.

    Let’s say you installed WP in: /public_html/

    So you have this: /public_html/wp-content/ (etc etc)

    When you make a subdomain in cpanel or any web management tool, by default, it likes to point to this: /public_html/subdomain/

    You need it to point to this: /public_html/

    That’s all.

    (ETA: The folders are virtual if that helps your host any)

    What about wildcard dns? Do I need to do something with that?

    If you want to use wildcard, then it needs to point to /public_html/ ??

    You don’t have to, but if you do, it means you can create new subdomains on the fly within WP, without having to mess around with your control panels.
