Sites hosted on shared servers

I have several sites that are hosted for free on shared servers, and recently when I tried to update plug-ins, they are requesting FTP credentials. Those sites which I have hosted on free servers, I do not have FTP access, so now, HOW am I supposed to update my Plug-Ins? The sites that I have hosted elsewhere are not asking for FTP credentials when updating Plug-Ins?
