Sites Created, but get 504 error

I am thinking that it is because I didn’t make changes to the .htaccess file when enabling multi-site. I couldn’t find it, I guess it isn’t visible on OSX. I have WordPress running on my own Xserve in my classroom. Not sure how to access htaccess on Snow Leopard (OSX) so that I can edit it.
