    Hi Yoast-Team,
I am on the fence of buying the yoast plugin and therefore did some research on websites that are using it. I would like to understand how the following sitemaps and URLs got created because I want to build a similar permalink structure for my website.

Look at the xml sitemap overview (created with yoast) following the “link to the page you need help with”.

The post and page sitemap names are what I expected (post-sitemap.xml and page-sitemap.xml), also the URL structure inside those sitemaps.

But the “hub_topic-sitemap.xml” and “hub_resources-sitemap.xml” are kind of strange to me. They look like if they were named because of 2 custom-post-types with the name “hub_topic” and “hub_resources”. Hence, I would expect URLs within each sitemap with this format:
    ….com/hub_topic/advanced (advanced = page title)
    ….com/hub_topic/written-content
    ….com/hub_topic/optimize

I am right with that assumption? Or are there other possible reasons for such names?

But instead, the URLs are for example:
    ….com/hub/seo/advanced (advanced = page title)
    ….com/hub/content/written-content
    ….com/hub/youtube/optimize

So, they look exactly like regular posts with the wordpress core permalink structure: /%category%/%postname%/
category = hub and sub-categories are seo, content and youtube.

But how can this be when the name of the sitemap is: ….com/hub_topic-sitemap.xml and ….com/hub_resource-sitemap.xml. I would have expected that the posts with such an URL appear only within the post-sitemap.xml or in the hub_topic-sitemap.xml but then the URLs should be …com/hub_topic/post-name.

In your support pages, I have read that yoast is not able to change the name of sitemaps this way. But how they were created in this case? Does yoast have such settings/options?

I have seen the same behavior also in the yoast sitemaps:
    https://yoast.com/yoast_employees-sitemap.xml
Looks like a custom-post-type sitemap but the urls inside are:
    https://yoast.com/about-us/team/
    https://yoast.com/about-us/team/postname
Also in this case I would assume that those are regular wp core posts with the category “about-us” and sub-category “team”. But how is the name of that sitemap created? Are your team-posts regular core wp posts or custom-post-types?

So probably I don’t understand how the name of a sitemap and the urls inside corresponds. Can you explain it to me?

If you are not able to answer my questions for those 2 specific domains, I would be very happy if you could explain that issue in general.

    Best regards,
    Holger
