The page I recently added contains 3 images added through image blocks (regular JPGs from uploads, nothing fancy). It also has a featured image (a different file). The page and the featured image got into Google index, but the 3 images in the post have not. I realized that it’s likely because of a mistake I made, and now I’m trying to rectify it, but to no avail.

The URL of the page in question is:

    https://neladunato.com/art/lake-fairy/

    My sitemap settings are:

    Enable Sitemap: On
    Enable Sitemap Indexes: Disabled
    Post Types: Posts, Pages
    Taxonomies: Categories
    Date Archive Sitemap: Disabled
    Author Sitemap: Disabled
Post Type Priority Score: Grouped, default, monthly
Taxonomy Priority Score: Grouped, default, monthly
    Exclude Images: No

I used to have Exclude Images set to Yes for months because I had misunderstood what this setting was for. So the pages I added before I had this setting all show the correct number of images, but the more recent ones show 0.

After changing the setting back to No I tried:

    • Clearing the sitemap URL from cache
    • Editing the page to refresh it in the sitemap

You can see it was last edited today, but the images still show “0”, when there should be 3? Is there anything I can do to force refresh this column in the sitemap on all affected pages?

I mean I guess I could delete and then add new pages on the same URLs, but I don’t know why that should work and simply editing the page would not?

Also, how come all the old pages/posts kept their accurate number after changing the setting, but only new pages got “0” images? Or am I misunderstanding what this setting does yet again? The official documentation is quite vague on this.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @nelchee,

Thanks for reaching out and for sharing the additional information.

In checking your XML sitemap for that page, it’s now showing 5 images –

I noticed that your XML sitemap is being cached –
    https://a.supportally.com/i/u8HBx4

You don’t want search engines getting old cached information. You always want them to get the current sitemap for your site.

You’ll want to disable the cache setting for your sitemap in W3 Total Cache.
    Here’s how – https://aioseo.com/docs/excluding-the-xml-sitemap-from-caching/#aioseo-w3-total-cache

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks!

Thank you very much for your help, J!
I thought clearing the cache manually should show the changes, but I guess not.
I added the recommended rules to the “Never cache the following pages” list.

I also found these rules in the “Non-trailing slash pages” field and removed them:

    ([a-z0-9_\-]+)?sitemap\.xsl
    [a-z0-9_\-]+-sitemap([0-9]+)?\.xml(\.gz)?
    sitemap(_index)?\.xml(\.gz)?

I certainly haven’t added them manually, so I don’t know where that came from.
