• Hi!

As I’m adding my mapped domain to Google Search Console, I realize there is no sitemap.xml file for this domain.
On my primary domain there is https://jonasr.app/sitemap.xml but this has some errors for the fetchxmlbuilder.com domain with message “This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location.”

I guess I could try to manually maintain a sitemap for my mapped domain, but I’m not really sure where to put it…

Any pointers as to how to handle sitemaps for mapped domains?

    Thanks!
    Jonas

if you use yoast seo, then the sitemap from your main domain will contain those new urls. so if you have your main domain and the sitemap added to GSC, google will be informed about urls that way.

of course you can add the new domains to GSC as well, but you won’t have to add a sitemap there too.

    Thanks,

Using Yoast, but it seems the sitemap.xml is generated by Jetpack: https://jonasr.app/sitemap.xml

And the new urls are included in the sitemap, however GSC doesn’t seem to like them…

    hmm,
so far we did not have any troubles with gsc when we added our sites like described above. but after having a closer look at how sitemaps should be provided, i agree. there should be different sitemaps for each domain.

we will definitely add this topic to our backlog and report back here after we have found a solution ??

Would you have any advice on manually adding a sitemap.xml for the mapped domain (I honestly don’t know where to put it) or should I simply do what I am currently doing: Ask GSC to inspect and index individual pages under my mapped domain?

wordpress 5.5 will bring it’s own sitemap feature. the behaviour is the same for now – the mapped pages will appear in there with their new domains.
but since this is a core feature now, we hope to find a way with core actions and filters to add our new sitemaps for those mappings there.

but as usual, we can not provide an estimate so far ??
