  • I tried the URL you mentioned https://hoofdpijnnet.nl/sitemap_index.xml. I am able to see the page in the mentioned URL with status HTTP/2 200. There is no issue.

I have also faced similar issue. But after sometimes when I try, google was able to fetch and things started to work. So in case if you faced this issue immediately after added to search console, just wait for sometimes and try again.

One more thing to consider, if you have just changed any dns or ns records. It will also take few minutes or hours depending on ttl.

Hi Muneer. Yes, the link works and the sitemap too. I just wondered why that link without www could not be added to Search Console, while with www went fine, although the domain was verified. But you’re right, maybe I have to wait a few days, I hope that will fix things. Sometimes these things are hard to explain to a client who sees it as ‘something is going wrong’. And to be honest, I think so too myself ?? So, good to hear I’m not the only one struggling with this sometimes. Thanks for the reply!

    Hey @moxie,

Thank you for using Yoast SEO and for reaching out!

I understand you have/had the issue that Google Search Console said: “Failed to fetch”. This can just happen after you just submitted it, we recommend waiting for 24 to 48 hours and checking the status again. This is in most cases resolved automatically.

Unrelated to the sitemaps, I’d recommend that you set up redirects from the WWW URL to the non-WWW version which you have configured your site under. This is best done on your hosting level so this is directly applied to all URLs and incoming traffic.

PS: your site was really loading slowly and I was even seeing a 500 internal server error. I recommend reaching out to your web host Hostnet to investigate. This might be also the cause of Google not able to read your site, if you site is down at certain times …

Thanks Jeroen. I will add the redirect in the htaccess. Thanks for the tip!

And yes, it is slow. We moved the site from Flexweb to Hostnet, I’m sure you’ve heard of them ;), just to find out it is much slower now. Still investigating…

That sounds good @moxie, good luck.
