I’ve been having a problem for a while now where trying to view my sitemap results in a 404 error. My site is hosted on Namecheap’s EastWP shared hosting plan and it’s running on Nginx. Any help is appreciated.

    Hello!

This is a fault by Namecheap, due to a scripting error–we called them out a year back.

I recommend reaching out to their support and refer them to this article. Perhaps they should learn how a correct NGINX configuration file looks like.

Excuse my exasperating comments ?? it’s shameful, really, that such a large company used obviously stolen (and broken) code to found their business upon.

Aubrey, thank you for your reply. I’m new to using hosting of any kind and chose namecheap simply due to costs. It’s very sad and extremely frustrating that they (and others) chose to do what they’ve done. I ditched Yoast for SEO Framework for many reasons and this seems like it was the right decision.

I’ll reach out to Namecheap and see if they’re willing to help me on their end. If I can’t figure that out, are there other alternatives? I’d like to keep the SEO framework even if it means using something different solely for my sitemap.

@chrisunseen Hi, try closte.com, its a managed wordpress cloud that i use, no problem with seo framework and other plugins.. its powered by google cloud, google cdn, and google premium tier network!

Antonio, thanks for the heads up about Closte. My current contract with Namecheap expires at the end of this year so it’ll be a perfect time to look into switching to a new host.

    “Aubrey”, that’s a new autocorrect I haven’t spotted before ??

Yes, I would expect them to fix it sooner than later because WordPress 5.5 now also comes with sitemaps, which I presume won’t work as intended either. Hopefully, they can sort this out for you quickly.

Have a beautiful day! And thank you, Antonio, for your hosting suggestion ??

So Namecheap offered to rewrite the four rules I needed to have reconfigured. The problem is, the changes are only temporary. They wouldn’t explain why they’re not permanent but it is what it is. Thing that doesn’t make sense to me is that my sitemap was working until about 9 months ago.

I just switched over from Yoast and my base sitemap https://www.creativityatwork.com/post-sitemap.xml results in a 404. Is this an issue because of my website host? Or Namecheap, my DNS provider? (I do see my sitemaps in my Google search console.) Please advise. Thanks.

Hello again. I still need help with my sitemap. I now get an error in my Google search console re /post-sitemap.xml that this Sitemap could not be read due to a General HTTP error.Same applies to /post_tag-sitemap.xml and /page-sitemap.xml.

Google says Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.
    Examples HTTP Error:404

Please advise on how to get this to work. Thanks.

PS I am not tech savvy so if you can tell me what file to go to and where it is located and what to copy and paste that would help a lot. Thanks again.

Okay I figured out how to solve the problem: I unchecked “Sitemap Output” in your SEO plugin, which gave me WP generated sitemap links approved by Google.
