    Hi,
I just checked the Google Search Console and found that my sitemap has errors since the end of January.

When I clicked to see more details, it says that “Sitemap can be read, but has errors”, “Error with Sitemap compression. Please recompress the file and resubmit.”

I think that it may due to the last updates.
It makes me quite worried and I hope that you could help me to fix this ASAP. ??

    Really appreciate that. Thank you.

    Nora

Try disabling sitemap compression and see if that helps.

    Hi, @arnaudbroes
    Thanks for replying.

I’ve tried to disable sitemap compression. However, the sitemap in my Google Console still shows error with the message “Your Sitemap exceeds the maximum file size limit. Please create multiple Sitemaps containing fewer URLs to meet the file size limit.”

Since I got many URLs (probably around 3,000), I think that I still need the compression to work for my sitemap.

Is this error caused by the update of All In One SEO plugin or by my site? cus I remember that everything was fine before and have no idea why this error suddenly popped up.

    Hi @arnaudbroes

I’m not sure if there a misunderstanding.

I mean I used to check the compression, and it only worked until late January. The Google Console shows the message “Error with Sitemap compression. Please recompress the file and resubmit.”

Then I uncheck the compression accordingly. However, since there are around 3000 URLs in my sitemap, the error message becomes “Your Sitemap exceeds the maximum file size limit. Please create multiple Sitemaps containing fewer URLs to meet the file size limit.”

Overall, it’s the compression error. So I want to fix the error, not just find an alternative. (And in this case, I couldn’t because both routes show errors.)

I’ve read all the “tutorial” and could not found the answer before asking here.

By posting the link, Arnaud is showing you how to enabled “sitemap indexes,” which split your sitemap into multiple pages of X num of URLs, which you can set in the text field provided. Recommended is 1,000. So, if you’re not splitting your site map now, you can try that setting and re-render the sitemap under the sitemap module page, then resubmit. That should solve the error.

Remember, if you have caching enabled on your site, do clear the cache always after you make this type of change. The cache could always deliver the old version of the sitemap unless it’s cleared.

Hi, I’ve tried to clear the cache and resubmitted again.
However, it still shows error in Google Console saying that my three post sitemaps are empty. The page sitemap and category sitemap are fine.

And now I also find that my sitemap page is blank right now. But I still can see the text by using view page resources, so I guess it’s some css issue that doesn’t influence the errors shown in Google Console.

As I said earlier, disable compression and enable indexes. Not both.

I kept the option “enable sitemap indexes” last time while disabling compression, but as I said, it didn’t work.

The Google Console shows the message “Error with Sitemap compression. Please recompress the file and resubmit.”

I checked the “enable sitemap indexes” box when I tried enabling/disabling the compression option. So I don’t know to fix this …
