• Hi,

I have a sitemap generated by Yoast which i have submitted to Google webmaster tools. The sitemap has been submitted. However the sitemap is showing that 5,476 pages have been submitted and only 2,945 pages have been indexed. The number of pages that have been indexed is considerably lower then the amount of pages that have been submitted and i wanted to know why that is? Every time google crawls my sitemap the indexed pages figure never goes up. It always stays the same. I have tried testing the sitemap and everything is fine. I really need some help with this as i am starting to get concerned that pages on my site are not getting indexed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Hi Bhavick26,

In my understanding of SEO, when we submit sitemaps to Google for indexing, it’s like a courtesy or a friendly request. Google is under no requirements to index every page simply because it’s on our sitemap. Admittedly, I’m no SEO expert, but that’s my understanding. That may go some way to explaining why you’re not getting the index results that you’re after.

That said, you may also want to drop a support ticket directly to Yoast as well:

    Hi Liam,

How do i post in the Yoast help forum because i can’t see an add new post button anywhere?

    Thanks

In a nutshell @liamdempsey is right. How many urls from a sitemap is going to eventually be indexed by Google is solely up to Google. There’s nothing anyone can do about it.

    Hi Bhavick26,

If you click on the link that I shared to the support forum for the Yoast plugin, you can scroll down the page to see the form for adding a new post.

@sinip – Thanks for confirming my understanding.
