    Hy guys,

i decided to switch from Google XML sitemaps to Yoast for my sitemap. All went fine i think and i see the new sitemap and send to google via gwtools but it’s about 10 days but google still show me that i have 96 page send but 0 indexed…

it-s normal? Or maybe i didn’t set it right?

PS: also, on gwtools i have 7 404 error due to the old sitemap url…how can i fix it? With just 301 redirect it’s ok?

  • Hi,

We have responded to both issues below.

    A. Sitemap
We are not sure why Google has not indexed the content. We would like some more information.
–Can you confirm that you have deleted the old sitemap? Having multiple sitemaps may be confusing to Google.
–Does it still show “processing” for the Yoast sitemap in Google Search Console?
–Can you provide a link to site that has the issue?

    B. 404 Error
Yes, you are welcomed to 301 redirect those urls. If you are not familiar with how to make 301 redirects we suggest our Yoast SEO Premium plugin which includes a redirection manager to make it easier to make redirects: https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/

Thanks Pcosta88 for the quick reply. So, today i still have the issue:

    A) my site is ***.tecnicovincente.it and yes, i deleted the old plugin and i think that ok to do just this right? I also remove from the gwt the old sitemap and load the new one. But what i see today on gwt is:

    https://prntscr.com/gy72b7

    B) it’s ok if i just do a 301 redirect? It will be bad for my seo? I see this on gwt:

    Hi,

    A. Yes, you should have removed the old sitemap plugin from your website and your Google Search Console.

We see in the image that no errors are appearing for the sitemap. It appears that Google has indexed all the content it decides to index. We say that as Google may not always index all your content. This guide explains more: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/34441?hl=en.

However, we see for example your sitemaps are appearing as expected here: https://www.tecnicovincente.it/sitemap_index.xml and this url: https://www.tecnicovincente.it/iphone-consuma-troppo-traffico-dati-ecco-perche/ appears in Google here.

We suggest reaching out to Google for more information as to why they are not showing indexed in your Google Search Console, when clearly, posts/pages are being indexed. You may?contact Google by making a post on their forums: https://productforums.google.com/forum/?rd=1#!forum/webmasters.?

    B. Yes, it is OK to make a 301 redirect for those 404 pages.

ummm ok but it’s very strange that google indexed…0 page. When i was with the old plugin, just 2 of my 96 pages where not indexed…

    I don’t know but i’m not convinced…

what is your advice about the 301 redirect of these old sitemap page? The destination will be my homepage or the new sitemap? But in case, wich one of these urls i will put inside the redirect?

    Hi,

    A. We are not sure why Google has indexed your content such as this new post here: https://www.tecnicovincente.it/come-vedere-rai-mediaset-dall-estero/ in Google here. We do know your sitemaps are working as those new posts are getting indexed by Google. We suggest contacting Google for more information as to why the Google Search Console does not show the posts as being indexed.

You may also wish to resubmit your Yoast sitemaps. This guide explains more: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/#google.

    B. We are not able to make a recommendation as to where you should redirect those old sitemap urls. We can only say that you should redirect them to where your target audience would benefit the best. If you think that is the homepage than redirect it to the homepage.
