    Hi dear support,

I just moved from Yoast because I had issues with canonical tags to TSF that fixed my issue so I’m very happy to discover your plugin!

I have a little problem with the sitemap (that I didn’t have with Yoast). I’ve read a lot of your threads here, I understand it’s not critical to not use a sitemap (and that categories/tags don’t have to be in) but still I’m trying to make it work (sorry :D) My sitemap is only showing the first languages pages and posts…

I’m using polylang and I setup the permalinks to use only the post slug, so the website I’m making doesn’t have subsirectory /fr nor language subdomains fr.mydomain.com. I just have mydomain.com/pageEN or mydomain.com/pageFR. So with this configuration I don’t have a secondary sitemap like mydomain.com/fr/sitemap.xml (or I didn’t find it?) and I guess all the posts / pages should show on the only sitemap?

    Thank you for your help,
    Kind regards

P.S: if you have a look at the sitemap, you’ll see extra domains just because I use “Multiple Domain Mapping on single site” plugin but it shouldn’t have any impact, it’s just mapping domains for 2 of my pages.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello!

If you append /sitemap.xml to the other language’s URLs, such as /fr/sitemap.xml, you’ll get the sitemap for that. It works for me–but you’re not the first to comment on its availability… perhaps there’s a caching issue? Try it on a different browser ??

For more info, like where you should submit those to Google and Bing, please see our KB entry on that.

For the archive-listings in the sitemap, please see our comments here (I still need to improve its readability… sorry!)

    Hi Sybre ??

No there is nothing on /fr/sitemap.xml … The website is not configured to have /fr/post but just /postinfr or /postinen so I don’t have subdirectory.
I tried on 3 different browsers purging their caches.

    There must be something else?
    Thanks ??

    Hello again ??

The root page still has the /fr/ appended, even when the translated-pages don’t.

Annoyingly, and I now understand the issue: Polylang preserves the language settings in the browser (pll_language cookie), making debugging this a bit cumbersome–for example, after you click the flag in the menu, the other language’s sitemap will become inaccessible.

Nevertheless, I can affirm that the /fr/sitemap.xml endpoint outputs the French sitemap :). Googlebot shouldn’t reuse cookies–so, I recommend submitting the sitemap URLs to Google Search Console, and they’ll confirm whether the sitemap is accessible or not. You can learn how to do that here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7451001.

    Cheers!

    Hi!

Yeah indeed you’re right, the sitemap is accessible at /fr/sitemap.xml ONLY if I clicked before on the polylang french flag. And then the english sitemap is not accessible.

So I submitted the 2 sitemaps to GSE, for now it says they couldn’t fetch the french one, I’ll give it some time to see…

Thanks for confirming that’s the case! If Google still reports an issue with the sitemap after a week, let me know!

    Hi Sybre,

As promised I give you an update after 1 week.
I still got a 404 error when i want to see the sitemap of the language not selected in polylang, as you said.
But unfortunately in GSE the second language sitemap is still not recognized after 1 week…

Sitemap can be read but contains errors. Sitemap is an HTML file.

Would you plan any update about that?
    Thank you ??

    Hello!

I just escalated this bug to an issue, so I won’t accidentally backlog it again ??
