Sitemap is HTML? google webmaster tools

  • So i wanted to add my sitemap to google webmaster tools.

    Its gives me and error saying :

    Errors
    Sitemap is HTML
    Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.

    Also : When trying to view my site map : https://www.”insert site”.com/sitemap.xml/

    and sitemap_index.xml directs to a “oops page not found”

    it just redirect me to my home page.

    Im dazzled …

    I’m using Yoast SEO , i dont know if theres a setting tweak that might have made this. Sitemap functionality is enabled .

    Il appreciate any help.
