I’m not sure if anyone else is experiencing this here – but I had a large number of pages (from a theme demo import) on my site, that were Private pages. One way or another, in initially setting up The SEO Framework, I failed to do my due diligence (for each of those pages) to either delete them or choose noindex. However, due to this – my Sitemap.xml contains DOZENS of pages. I have deleted most of these pages, but they are still in Sitemap.xml. Other than turning off the ‘Sitemap’ checkbox, then turning it back on, what can I do to get The SEO Framework to re-look at my site, and see that there are only 6 pages?

Edit: After reading dozens of sitemap threads, I see a reference to “changefreq”. Does this have to do with how often The SEO Framework will expect pages to change, with regard to how often it will update with changes in my site?

    Hi @useyourblinker (cool name!)

Could you share the website’s URL with me confidentially on my contact page?

You’re experiencing a unique case, so I’d like to dig in first before conveying an answer.

You can read about changefreq here (it’s an outward hint, not inward):
    https://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.html#changefreqdef

The SEO Framework doesn’t utilize changefreq because it’s inaccurate at best. So, it will send out an untrue statement to the Search Engines. I’d like them to figure out on their own how often the pages change based on the timestamps; which is much more accurate.

I have replied via your Contact Page. Thank you for getting back to me!

I have disabled my Google XML Sitemaps plugin (that I started using in the interim) in order to turn The SEO Framework’s sitemap option back on, and the result has continued. Please let me know if you don’t get the ‘Contact’, and I will contact you another way.

    Thank you so much!

Edit: Sybre has completely resolved my issue. I had a database issue of some sort on my WordPress site – where URLs were able to resolve and be seen publicly (whole posts and portfolio items), but were DELETED if you try to view them in wp-admin.

Although bizarre, I was able to restore the site to an ‘older’ version from a few days ago. Then, upon deleting items, the sitemap.xml was updated IMMEDIATELY.

So for anyone looking for this answer, The SEO Framework’s sitemap.xml updates IMMEDIATELY when you noindex or delete or create or trash a page.

Thank you, Sybre, for everything. This is the best SEO Plugin on earth, for 99% of sites that people make!
