Hi all, since I started to cache with W3 and Cloudflare, the sitemap on Google Search Console is not working anymore for the following websites:

– https://ibomberdellaroma.it/sitemap_index.xml
– https://thebookadvisor.it/sitemap_index.xml

GSC returns empty sitemap.

Do not process 404 errors for static objects with WordPress is not enabled.

I already filled the following code in Never minify the following pages: field:
sitemap(_index)?\.xml(\.gz)?
[a-z0-9_\-]*sitemap[a-z0-9_\-]*\.(xml|xsl|html)(\.gz)?
([a-z0-9_\-]*)?\.xml

How could I fix this issue?

We’re sorry to hear that you’re having a sitemap error in Google Search Console.

To address this, we suggest the following actions:

1. Delete your sitemap in Google. Doing so will not hurt the SEO of the site. This guide explains more (scroll to the bottom):?https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/183669?hl=en.

2. Submit the sitemap again. Be sure to submit only sitemap_index.xml and nothing else. This guide explains more:?https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/.

3. Monitor the results to see if the issue is resolved. It can take some time before Google can report on the crawled URLs after you re-submit your sitemap, especially for?large sites?like yours. Google Search Console reports?are not real-time.

Thank you @suascat_wp,

I tried several times to delete and submit the sitemaps, but it is not working.

GSC sometimes accepts them (sitemap_index.xml) but has problems with the internal ones (i.e. https://thebookadvisor.it/post-sitemap1.xml).

How could I fix this?

Hello @claxroma!

It appears that W3 Total Cache is caching your sitemap. Please add an exclusion for the sitemap files. You may refer to this article: https://yoast.com/help/exclude-sitemaps-from-cache/

I already excluded the sitemap files.

If you refresh the sitemaps

you could see they would be generated every time (the timestamp is updated live) and in the comments you could find

Page Caching using disk: enhanced (Requested URI is rejected)
Minified using disk (Request URI is rejected)

so it seems it is not cached or minified.

Could it be a cloudflare problem?

@claxroma Have you tried excluding the specific sitemap URL from Cloudflare. You can find more information on how to exclude a URL from Cloudlfare here: https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200172316-How-do-I-include-or-exclude-a-specific-URL-from-Cloudflare-s-page-rules-
