    Hello,

Firstly I wanted to thank you for this wonderful SEO plugin. Till now i never faced any issue with this. But from last week I am losing rankings in Google search results. So when I dig deep into my Search console, i got to see that in the coverage report, the total pages with valid URLs are decreasing daily. So then i checked the index status in the Sitemap section. There i can see that the present sitemap is not fetched. So I a seeing the error as ‘Couldn’t fetch’ .So my sitemap URL is :

    https://electronicsguide4u.com/sitemap_index.xml

I am not using any caching plugin and I have been using the same URL for two years now. Don’t know why suddenly I am seeing this error in the console. Please assist me in this.

    Regards,
    Eric

@arikjeet We looked and we can see your sitemap loading here https://electronicsguide4u.com/sitemap_index.xml so the sitemap is loading as expected and nothing should prevent it from being fetched by Google. If you are receiving the error of ‘Couldn’t Fetch’ for the sitemap in Google, we suggest the following actions to resolve this :

If resubmitting the sitemap does not resolve the warning, it may be due to a bug or issue in Google Search Console. We would recommend first checking the sitemap for any issues in a validator such as https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html, and if no issues are found, we would then recommend checking the sitemap in Google Search Console using the URL Inspection Tool.

To check whether the sitemap can be fetched using the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console you would need to perform the following steps:

? Click on ‘URL Inspection’ in the left hand menu
? Enter the URL of your sitemap in the entry field
Since the sitemap is intentionally set to noindex, the page will not be in Google’s index.
? Click the ‘Test Live URL’ button
? After the Live Test is complete, check the ‘Page Fetch’ status which is located under ‘Crawl’

We also we have a guide on using the URL Inspection Tool feature here: https://yoast.com/help/fetch-as-googlebot/

If you continue to experience the ‘Couldn’t Fetch’ error, you can also reach out to Google Search Console support at the following link: https://support.google.com/webmasters/?hl=en#topic=9002753

?Also, you can create your own thread about this warning and receive assistance on resolving it by creating a post on the Google Search Console support forum at: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/new?hl=en`

In the google url inspection tool , i am seeing error as below :

    Page fetch : Failed:Not found (404)

Also when i enter yoast sitemap url i.e https://electronicsguide4u.com/sitemap_index.xml in sitemap section (after deleting all existing ones) again getting same error as ‘couldn’t fetch’

Further, when i put the sitemap url as ‘https://electronicsguide4u.com/sitemap.xml’ it is showing success message in console. So whats the diff between only sitemap.xml and sitemap_index.xml ??

Thanks for following up with us. We are sorry to hear that you’re still having trouble with the sitemap index. The https://electronicsguide4u.com/sitemap.xml is actually redirecting to the https://electronicsguide4u.com/sitemap_index.xml. So, there’s no difference thus, submitting the sitemap_index.xml shall work correctly as expected.

That said, please share a screenshot in which you highlight the relevant error you’re seeing when submitting the sitemap_index.xml so that we can take a look at it.

We look forward to hearing from you.
