Hello, I have created the sitemap of my website using Yoast but when I paste the link into Google Search Console I get a could’t fetch error.

The sitemap is located here: https://gamehub.fun/sitemap_index.xml

I tried a lot of fixes for this problem:
Updating robot.txt with a better robot,
Deleting the caching of the sitemap in W3 Total Cache
Using a double // in GSC
    Using another plugin

But nothing seems to fix the problem and we have to ask GSC to crawl every article that we add.
Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

    Kind regards, Manuele.

    Hello Manuele,

Thanks for reaching out regarding your sitemap.

First, looking at your robots.txt file, unless you have a specific reason to disallow those files and robot crawlers, we recommend using the default robot rules below:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /wp-admin/
    Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

We recommend having a robots.txt file that is as clean as possible. Please refer to this article: https://yoast.com/wordpress-robots-txt-example/. To edit your robots.txt through our plugin, please follow this guide: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-edit-robots-txt-through-yoast-seo/

Hello, as I said I tried updating the robot.txt because the standard one gave me the coudn’t fecth result.

I can confirm that the could’t fetch still happens with the default robot rules so that’s not the problem ??

    Thanks for the feedback.

We can confirm that the sitemap is loading fine at https://gamehub.fun/sitemap_index.xml. To address this, we suggest the following actions:

    1. Clear all your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser. If you are not sure how to clear cache from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/

    2. Delete all your sitemap in Google. Doing so will not hurt the SEO of the site. This guide explains more (scroll to the bottom): https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/183669?hl=en.

    3. Submit the sitemap again. Be sure to submit only sitemap_index.xml and nothing else. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/

    4. Monitor the results to see if the issue is resolved.

I’ve tried clearing all the caches using W3 total cache and doing the procedure you suggested but the problem is still present.
I’ve no idea why but nothing seems to work :/

    Hi,

You might have to wait for a few days and monitor for Google to update and crawl the sitemap again and provide an updated status.

Otherwise, https://gamehub.fun/sitemap_index.xml seems to be loading as expected. So if you are on the https://gamehub.fun domain in Google Search Console, we would expect that the sitemap would be read and fetched by its crawler after removing and resubmitting the sitemap – https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/

I guess I’ll wait and check back monday or tuesday, for context that’s what I see on Google Search Console

@bistecchino Thanks for your reply, and we’re sorry to hear that you are still experiencing this issue with your sitemap.

If resubmitting the sitemap does not resolve the warning, it may be due to a bug or issue in Google Search Console. We would recommend first checking the sitemap for any issues in a validator such as https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html, and if no issues are found, we would then recommend checking the sitemap in Google Search Console using the URL Inspection Tool.

To check whether the sitemap can be fetched using the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console you would need to perform the following steps:

? Click on ‘URL Inspection’ in the left hand menu
? Enter the URL of your sitemap in the entry field
? Since the sitemap is intentionally set to noindex, the page will not be in Google’s index.
? Click the ‘Test Live URL’ button
? After the Live Test is complete, check the ‘Page Fetch’ status which is located under ‘Crawl’

We also we have a guide on using the URL Inspection Tool feature here: https://yoast.com/help/fetch-as-googlebot/

If you continue to experience the ‘Couldn’t Fetch’ error, you can also reach out to Google Search Console support at the following link: https://support.google.com/webmasters/?hl=en#topic=9002753

?Also, you can create your own thread about this warning and receive assistance on resolving it by creating a post on the Google Search Console support forum at: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/new?hl=en

I guess it is just a bug in GSC, because the sitemap appears to be ok

    https://ibb.co/qYxT773

Plus crawl is allowed and the sitemap is set to no-index

    https://ibb.co/pv9QZgz

Hopefully the bug will be fixed because it is really annoying ??

    Kind regards, Manuele.

    Hi,

We do hope that GSC will reflect the updated results eventually, as we don’t see anything that would cause any errors for the Yoast SEO sitemap to not be submitted successfully.

Otherwise, please do reach out to their support forums for further clarification as the ‘couldn’t fetch’ error doesn’t provide us much to go on as to where the issue is stemming from.
