    Hi

I thought that my SEO plugin submits the updated sitemps to Google whenever the site changes. Isn’t this is the case?

I just saw in my Google Search Console that my sitemap index was last submitted in October 2018.

    I have resubmitted it today.

I update my website quite often – how often does the plugin send the updated sitemaps to Google?

    thanks

@magicpowers The sitemap generated by the Yoast plugin is automatically updated as you add, remove, or change your content. Each time there’s an update to the sitemap, the plugin automatically pings the search engines to have them crawl the sitemap.

thanks – so….the date the sitemap index was last submitted is irrelevant, as search engines will crawl the site and read the updated sitemaps every time they are pinged about the change?…. in other words, I don’t need to worry about re-submitting my sitemap to Google, correct?

The last modified date on the sitemap has its own significance. This tells Google when each post was last updated and helps with SEO because you want Google to crawl your updated content as soon as possible. When a date changes in the XML sitemap, Google knows there is new content to crawl and index.

You just need to submit the sitemap once to Google Search Console. The search engine will handle the rest by crawling links.
