Sitemap breaks every now and then

That’s already happened to me and needs to be resolved. Sitemap generation should be triggered when there’s no sitemap (including child sitemaps) and it gets accessed.

I’ve already suggested to the team to save the sitemaps into actual files, and not to use transients, but they’ve rejected the idea. Maybe we can rustle up some support for this here.

Can you please follow these steps?
1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:

2. [IMPORTANT] Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:

Yeah, this is exactly the advice I got, but that’s a manual regeneration of the map, not a fix!

The issue does not happen unless some caching conflicts with Rank Math.

In such cases, you can also disable the caching added by RM by using this filter:

Pages don’t disappear by caching. Caching makes older versions appear, but it doesn’t make anything into a 404.
