Sitekite Adsense connection Error: Ad Client not found.
-
Have installed SiteKit successfully. Search Console and Analytics all fine and working. Adsense is not connected. When trying to connect I get a “Error: Ad Client not found” that flashes on the screen and then it continues to try to install (never makes any progress). Have signed up for Adsense and it’s waiting to “see” the code on the site but can’t get sitekit to get that far.
Thanks in advance for insights and help!

Thanks for reaching out. That does indeed sounds unusual. From inspecting your site I don’t see the Site Kit metatag or the Site Kit placed AdSense code on your site. If you’d like to share the following information we can investigate this further:
- Your Site Health information. You can share privately via this form if preferred.
- Do you see any console errors on the same screen where you encounter this notice?
- Does this same notice appear when checking from a browser incognito window?
Thanks James – no, no code has been added – doesn’t get anywhere near that far.
No other error appears.
Same notice is on incognito – tried that first.
I *think* the problem lies with an old adsense account I may have had years ago, I’m now getting a new / different response when logging into adsense that says I’m not allowed to have two accounts. Trying to track that down but I think that is what is freaking out Adsense and therefore SiteKit.
Hi,
I also have the exact same issue. My website is veganhomeandtravel.com
I’ve checked on this site and have seen many others that report the same error message (Error: Ad client not found.) with a progress bar that never goes anywhere.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Seb@ricthompson Many thanks for the insights, very useful. When you login to AdSense when you encounter the message in relation to multiple AdSense accounts are you able to proceed to your “Sites” section? If so please share the status of your Site Kit connected site.
Note I’ve also created a GitHub issue to collect more information on this.
@sebranger If you’d like to open an individual support topic it would be great to troubleshoot your specific case. Within your support topic please share whether you encounter any notices when accessing AdSense directly. Feel free to also share your Site Health information referencing your support topic.
@jamesosborne problem is that I wasn’t even aware that I had another adsense account. (Google only allows you one per person) Therefore I couldn’t really set up another account although adsense seemingly let me do so and gave me code to put into my site. Later on when attempting to log back into that “new” account it gave me an error and mentioned that I can only have one account – NO you can NOT go into “Sites” section or anything else actually
Then I happened to check my gmail related to the “new” account and there was an email from adsense that referenced an account I had set up like 10 years ago and had completely forgotten. Don’t even have that email address anymore (but I still luckily had the login information saved in my password program I’ve been using forever). @sebranger not sure if that part applies to your problem perhaps? An old account floating out there you forgot about like me?
I was able to add another “user” to that old account as an admin user – that new “user” being a current gmail address. This allowed me to close out the old account so I really could start a new one under my current gmail address. No errors on adsense side – it’s now waiting for me to put the code on my site after doing that.
I then went back into SiteKit and re-installed Adsense using incognito mode.
When I tried to do that it said:
Looks like you’re already using AdSense
Error: Ad client not found.Site Kit will place AdSense code on your site to connect your site to AdSense and help you get the most out of ads. This means Google will automatically place ads for you in all the best places.
Clearly I’m not already using AdSense lol
I’m going to wait 24 hours – perhaps there’s something that needs to be cleaned out on the Google side?
Any other suggestions?
@ricthompson Thanks for your insights, I’ve also been doing some testing on this and I’ve been able to reproduce the same experience. I added some additional information to the GitHub issue. What I suspect is in your case until AdSense removes or corrects your legacy account you won’t be able to proceed at present, with your current account or site not approved until this is addressed.
As for the message within Site Kit this should not longer occur once your AdSense account is fully working, with your account and site approved. We’ll hopefully be able to improve the messaging within Site Kit to reflect such situations.
I’ll keep your topic open while we work on Site Kit notice. Thanks for your patience on this, and assistance in sharing what’s occurring in your case.
@jamesosborne Just to clarify / update – the adsense account seems to be 100%. I’ve manually added the code to the site and adsense sees it and they’re in the approval process. Sitekit still giving me the same errors
@ricthompson Thanks for the update. I suspect once your site is fully passed the approval process you’ll be able to proceed. Your AdSense account may be in a stage similar to a new account setup, requiring a manual review to ensure your old AdSense account is no longer in use or removed.
Be sure to let us know should you hear anything back from the AdSense team.
Greetings @jamesosborne, I am also having similar problems too. mine is a new site less than a week old. So I can certainly say that Adsense has not been connected to it before. Yet when I try to link it to AdSense using Sitekit it gives me the error message; Error: Ad Client not found.
Analytics and console were connected last night and seemed to work fine, just AdSense.I NEED HELP URGENTLY PLEASE.
Hi @padosky, sorry to hear you’re encountering the same issue. If you’d like to open a new support topic we can work with you on your case individually. With the support topic it would be great if you could also include your current site status for the website you’re trying to connect to AdSense.
@jamesosborne Adsense has cleared up the account issues and Sitekit is now working.
To recap this for anyone with the same problem – the error for me was due to an Adsense account issue (having a very old account tracked to me that I had completely forgotten about). The site itself was NOT an issue – nor it seems was SiteKit the issue. Once I checked the email address that I was trying to activate Adsense on (thinking I was setting up a new account) I saw an email from Adsense referencing an account I already had on an old email address. Logging into adsense with the old info (that I luckily still had saved in my password manager) I was able to move things forward. My suggestion for anyone at this point would be to ADD in your new email address as an admin to that adsense account and move forward with adding the new site in. Don’t try to delete the account and start over – Adsense will just reactivate the old account for you anyway and you’ll lose time as they straighten things out. If you can’t log in to that old adsense account I don’t know what to suggest except using the password recovery mechanisms.
Again – once the Adsense account was straightened out Sitekit worked flawlessly
Hopefully this helps you @padosky @sebranger and anyone else getting this error.
Hmm, interesting, but I checked my gmail and didn’t see any old emails from adsense, so I don’t think I ever opened another account. Just to be sure, what was the subject matter or the FROM: field in the old email you found? Basically, what should I search for exactly in gmail to find it (if it’s there)?
Happy things are working for you!
Cheers,
Seb@sebranger Email was from Adsense – “You already have an existing AdSense account”. And it was sent to the “new” email address I was trying to set up Adsense on. (The “new” email address was a gmail address – not sure if that matters or not)
@ricthompson I have searched my mail, and there’s absolutely nothing showing I had a Google Adsense account before now. I have not in the past connected my site to google ads, so the code error in mine might come from a different issue.
@jamesosborne like you earlier instructed, I already opened a new support topic but yet to receive a reply on same.
