I have a couple of sites where I have tried to connect Google Site Kit to an existing GA4 property. When I am in the Analytics setup section it shows me a drop down list of properties in the selected account, however the GA4 I need is not in that list. I have checked all the permissions and I am logging in with the correct Google account etc.

The GA4 property is working fine and I can connect it with a manual tag insertion in the <head> of the site, I just can’t select it in Site Kit for some reason. The only option is to ‘create a new property’. But when doing this, then disconnecting and reconnecting Site Kit, it can no longer find the new one either.

Our agency has 300+ websites setup in this way and it hasn’t been an issue in others.

@tnolte Thanks for the feedback we appreciate it. With regards to the GitHub issue, this will only be looking at the Analytics module and not the Tag Manager module. Please do feel free to add a comment onto the GH issue regarding Tag Manager if you wish and the team will see if that is something that is possible.

@tnolte @shaunbowen Just wanted to post an update here regarding the work to improve the amount of Analytics properties that are available from the selection drop down.

The changes for this are currently in the development version of the plugin which should now list the first 200 properties for an Analytics account.

Could I please ask if it is possible for you to confirm that you can now see more properties on the accounts where you were having this issue?

You can get the latest version of the development plugin from here. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Development version from the dropdown and click on download.

Please let me know if you have any questions on the above.

@adamdunnage I downloaded and installed the development version, but this seemed to be the same version number of 1.110.0 that I already had installed. I continued with the install regardless.

Even after this, I still cannot see the new property I need in the drop down list. Nothing appears to have changed.

Do I need to clear some sort of cache for Site Kit? If so, how do I do this?

@shaunbowen Thank you for giving this a go. The changes made here updated the maximum number of properties displayed in the drop down from 50 to 200 (which is the most we can display).

This means that you still might not be able to see and select your desired property if there were 200+ properties created before it within that Analytics account.

To check that you are seeing the updated drop down list, can you check that the list of options in the drop down for you is above 50? If you still don’t see it and wish to clear your browser cache then you can do so with these steps. If you still don’t see 50+ properties then let me know and I will investigate this further.

Hi @adamdunnage I tried doing this from a different Chrome profile and in an incognito window, but I can still only see 50 properties.

My version of Site Kit did automatically update to the official 1.111.0 version so I had to re-download the development version and install that again before trying the above.

For now I will see if I can delete some old Analytics properties from that account, as some are no longer in use and that might get the total under 50.

But the issue still remains unfortunately.

@shaunbowen Thank you for the information. Could I just confirm with you that when testing this, did you disconnect and reconnect Site Kit before checking?

Did you also clear your browser cache, cookie and session storage in the Chrome browser? If you still only see a maximum of 50 properties after the above then I will pass this back to the team to investigate further.

@adamdunnage I have just tried resetting Site Kit and performing all the connections again. Still only 50 properties showing.

I won’t delete my cache as I have lots of tabs and logins in progress at the moment, so instead I performed the process on my mobile. Still 50 properties only.

@shaunbowen Thanks for confirming. I will pass this back to the team to investigate further. Once I have an update I will post it here.

@shaunbowen @tnolte Thank you both for your patience with this. Site Kit version 1.113.0 which is now available contains an improvement to increase the number of selectable Analytics properties to 200.

Please can you confirm this is the case for you after updating the plugin?

Confirming that this issue is also resolved for me. Thanks!

I have a google analytics account with over 400 accounts, so what am I supposed to do to get the account I require to appear?

@montythebrave Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately as mentioned in this thread, the limit of Analytics properties that can be displayed is 200 with the first 200 created being displayed.

If there is anything else we can help with then please feel free to open a new support topic where we will be happy to help where we can.

OK so your basically telling me the Site Kit plugin is just simply of no use to me then? All because I can’t select an account from the dropdown?

Even though I haven’t hit the 200 properties limit yet I’m in agreement with @montythebrave that it simply being the fact that you can no longer use the plugin if your account has more than 200 properties is not really a proper response.

I’d like to flag this as an issue that needs to be explored for a solution. I understand there are limits in the API but then there needs to be an alternative solution. If there would be a way to configure the property identifiers via a configuration attribute(either in the web interface or via a constant) then at least we’d have a workaround for limits in the API.

@montythebrave @tnolte Thank you both for your feedback here. I will discuss this further with the team internally to see if there is anything we can do to raise the limit or anything else we could look at for these scenarios.

I will feedback the outcome of this discussion once it has taken place. Thanks once again for your comments and I will update once it has been discussed.
