site working fine goes 500 then blank after tech support

    I did a search to try to find if there were any other threads about this. There were a few for similar issues people faced when initially installing, but none for my situation. Then again, I’m not that much of an expert.

    A site I’ve hosted successfully, dtlna.org, was working just fine for months. I hadn’t logged in for a long time, but went to make some updates and got an internal sever error, 500. Also, in other browsers.

    I contacted my host’s tech support and they said php had to be updated. But in doing so, they broke the index page. It’s blank now. And, they want ME to fix it. I don’t know how.

    If I do a complete republish, I’ll lose too much customization. All the other pages work. It’s just the index that’s blank. I can get into the admin page.

    which index.php?

    For example:

    -There is one in the root of your wordpress installation,
    -And there is another in your theme’s folder.

    If you can go in to the wp-admin have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    -Setting your permalink structure to default or re-saving your permalink structure at Settings > Permalinks in your admin panel. If WordPress cannot automatically edit the .htaccess file, it will provide manual instructions after saving.
