• I recently updated to 2.8.4 and it has completely hosed my blog. I have two major problems:

    1) The site won’t load, or takes forever to load.
    2) The dashboard is hosed, I have no left column navigation and the drop down menus at the top don’t work (ie, screen options and edit post).

I reverted back to 2.8.3 (I use godaddy so it’s easy) and the problems still persist. Everything worked perfectly fine when I was using 2.7.x versions.

I know I’m not the only one experiencing this because I’ve searched for solutions, but I have not found satisfactory solutions. Is the 2.8.x series of releases just a mess? I get that impression.

    I use Firefox
    My site is https://www.propigskinpicks.com

    Hopefully someone can help.

    Your impression is wrong.

Recapitulate and tell us what are the changes you made recently – themes, plugins, editing templates…

    For starters, try these steps.

    1. Re-uploading WordPress files (latest version)
    2. Deactivating all plugins and reactivating them one by one.

My bad, I think I may have fixed it.

I was able to figure out the web address for the plugins page (I had no way of navigating there) and realized I had the “Lighter Menus” plugin installed, which obviously conflicted with the 2.8.x dashboard.

I’m gonna upgraded to 2.8.4 now and see how it goes…

kichu: In the future if people have dashboard problems like this, please be sure to tell them how to get to the plugins page when they can’t navigate there (ie, go to https://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/plugins.php). Telling people to “deactivate all plugins” when their dashboard is hosed is not completely helpful.

Yes. You have a point there!
