• Tricky to write but here goes.
I have 4 seperate websites that all describe different aspects of my work as an artist. My main site is a WP site. Rather than have static HTML pages for my other domains, is there a way of creating ‘categories’ so each site can share resources, links etc. inside my single WP site? Each of the 4 have their own domain names.

  • Hi Paulbg,
I am glad you asked this as I have exactly the same question. Sadly I can’t help you but hopefully someone out there will give us the answer. I had considered the possibility of using Custom Post Types within the main WP site and then maybe giving each type the different domain name. Not sure if that would work though.

You’d want to look at a Network (multi-site) installation. That will let you create separate sites for each section, and manage them all through one central admin area.

    Hi catacaustic,
I did look at the muti-site option a while ago and read this on the installation page “If you plan on creating sites that are strongly interconnected, that share data, or share users, then a multisite network might not be the best solution.”
So that put me off going down that route.
    Thanks for your input though.

What @paulfbg is describing is a perfect use-case for a network. @rocky074, I can’t say if it will suit you because your situation is most likely very different. That’s why it’s recommended that you should open your own support requests as your situation will be differnt to pretty much everyone else’s. ??

Actually @catacaustic what @paulfbg described in his original post was exactly my dilemma, I also am an artist with 3 rather than 4 domains. I had a good look through the old forum posts to see if anyone had given a solution to this sort of question but with no luck. Yes, I could have started my own support request but it would have read almost word for word as @paulfbg’s topic so by posting here it may fix the problem for both of us. After all, @paulfbg posted the original request 2 months ago but without reply so at least now the topic has been bumped and a reply given.
    Thank you.

Thanks guys, this is still an issue and I will be looking into your network suggestion catacaustic. It looks complex but perhaps part of that is I have to fully define what I’m trying to achieve from the outset…which until you know the options is difficult.
