I received an email that the Jetpack plugin had been updated. The next email (at the same time) was that my site was experiencing issues and had a critical error. I was able to get into recovery mode to deactivate the plugin, I uninstalled and reinstalled but whenever I activate it and get out of recovery mode, the critical error comes back.

  • I had the same experience. Also, the recovery link no longer works for me, and the link goes to a page that says “Recovery Mode not initialized.”

Same issue here. Recovery link now says “Recovery Mode not initialized.”

Same here, my only solution is to disable JetPack. The error logs seems to indicate something with blocks for WooCommerce. But WooCommerce works fine and wasn’t recently updated.

I’m having the same problem. The error seems to involve a class definition failure for something around “calypsoify” – any ideas?

The error readout I received was as follows:

An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 80 of the file /home3/theessk8/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/modules/calypsoify/class.jetpack-calypsoify.php. Error message: Uncaught Error: Class ‘A8C_WPCOM_Masterbar’ not found in /home3/theessk8/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/modules/calypsoify/class.jetpack-calypsoify.php:80

I got it fixed by upgrading PHP to 7.4.

No dice on the upgrade to PHP – but thanks for the suggestion and I did the upgrade, which was probably good to do anyway. Any other ideas from the group?

Any luck yet? at this rate I think I will have to find an alternative for jetpack now.

Nothing yet and have worked through Bluehost support and found no fixes on my own. Any suggestions for an alternative to Jetpack would be greatly appreciated here.

@ljkelley thanks for the update but that didn’t solve my issue at all. Do you have any other creative fixes? Any log files that indicated what cleared out when you upgraded to PHP 7.4?

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Sorry everyone for the troubles! We’ll soon release a new version of Jetpack to address the issue @freilinger42 reported here:

An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 80 of the file /home3/theessk8/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/modules/calypsoify/class.jetpack-calypsoify.php. Error message: Uncaught Error: Class ‘A8C_WPCOM_Masterbar’ not found

Until then, I would recommend using the link in the email you received to access your site in Recovery mode. Once you’re in the dashboard with the Jetpack plugin paused, I would recommend the following:

    1. Go to the Plugins menu
    2. Click “Resume” to relaunch the Jetpack plugin
    3. Access your main dashboard page at https://yoursite.com/wp-admin/

Once you’ve done so, the problem should resolve itself.

Let me know how it goes.

I’ve done what was suggested, but I’m still getting the error messages described earlier, and again, can only edit pages in wp-admin – Jetpack does not work except for basic site data functionality. Also, my archive page has lost use of the Authors widget.

When can the release of the new version of Jetpack be expected?

Could you clarify what you mean by this? Are there specific pages or settings that don’t work on your end?

my archive page has lost use of the Authors widget.

This may be a different issue, or may happen because Jetpack is not working properly on your site. Are you able to go to Jetpack > Settings in your wp-admin dashboard, and search for “Widgets” there? Is the feature active? When you go to Appearance > Customize, do you see the widget in your widget area?

    Same issue here.

Jetpack 9.2 has failed to update.

Tried recovery mode and resume to no avail.

Jetpack is gone from my Dasboard.

To Clarify, since the update Jetpack has been completely diabled on my site admin.

The site itself works fine, but without any jetpack functionality, E.g. Social Sharing, likes etc.

I’ve disabled auto-updated for now. Really don’t want to restore site to previous date as I’ll lose blogs from yesterday.

Please can you look into it asap. I’m running the latest PHP + wordpress.

Actually just realised the jetpack features work fine on the front-end of the site, it’s just the admin that’s causing issues.
