• Hi,

So I recently encountered an issue regarding my site URL. Last week we switched our webserver to a local hosting provider. When this was done our URL was changed. Before it was simply “theroofingcompanysc.com” now it shows “theroofingcompanysc.com/site2020” this is because our previous web designers placed their newly created site as a subfolder in the public HTML.

My question is this is it possible to change the Site URL in WordPress-Settings-General to show only “theroofingcompanysc.com”? I did have a huge issue where I changed the WordPress Address and the site broke. But my hosting provider was able to fix it.

The reason I am asking is what I saw here: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-get-rid-of-wordpress-from-your-wordpress-site-url/ that it was possible without changing the WordPress address you can allow your main URL to show without referencing a different folder. Allowing the site to show normally.

    Any advice is helpful, thanks!

  • There are two options, in my opinion:

    a) Yes, you can change in Settings-General, but also you must move your directory using FTP and this could cause issues and
    b) You redirect “www.yoursite.com” to “www.yoursite.com/directory” with htaccess, 301 Redirect or on cPanel (hosting provider). The problem here is your browser will show the real directory (with “/directory” at the end of URL, what could be weird to the user
