I’ve been getting regular emails telling me to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress. However, in the upgrade section it says I have the latest version of WordPress, even though it’s on 4.7.3 If I click on ‘re-install now’ I get an odd screen with ‘enable backups’ as the only possible option. The two screenshots are here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kST4QPkz2yfhFgIXCLZs7rBAkejH_9Rj

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks in advance!

    Richard

  • Suggest that you:
    – backup your database
    – backup your files, especially you “wp-content” and directories below it
    – update your themes and plugins, just maybe new core could have an issue with old plugins, less likely than other way around. The instructions below also have you disabling all plugins.
    – now do a manual update using FTP such as filezilla, details here:

Many thanks Russ. I’m working through the instructions on the link you sent. It doesn’t explicitly say whether to delete the index.php file from my current installation or not. Do you know whether I should or shouldn’t? Thanks so much!

    All sorted now, thanks Russ.

Thank you, I will see if I can get that changed in that doc.
If it is appropriate could you mark this thread as resolved.
