    Hi,

    Thanks for posting your question.

There is not much option in GTM4WP regarding site performance. Rules of thumb is that you should not activate any plugin feature that is not really need. The weather and geo data functions for example could add some delay because it uses a remote service to get those data into your data layer.

I put the website of this plugin (https://gtm4wp.com) into Page Speed and run a test with and without having GTM4WP active.

With active GTM4WP, mobile score was 60, desktop was 86
Without GTM4WP mobile score was 57, desktop remained 86

From that, as far as I can see, it is more dependent on your cache plugin and using a CDN than just plugin settings in GTM4WP.

Your mobile score is just 9, desktop is 48, I would say there should be other issues on your site that needs correction.

    Hi,

I see the exact same behaviour as khmubashar.

I’m using GTmetrix and see a 20 to 30% performance down too. To speak in terms of seconds….1 to 2 seconds on loading time. That’s a lot!

I’m using a custom build theme without any weird plugin like weather and or geo dat functions other then GeoIP (request for WooCommerce).

    Hi @quinox,

How does page load time change if you leave GTM4WP enabled but you enter a fake GTM container ID like GTM-XXXXX?

    Hi Thomas,

I’ve removed the plugin and used the codes directly in header.php as in https://developers.google.com/tag-manager/quickstart.

So I can’t test anymore unfortunalty. But What I see now…my pagespeed is a lot better.

    hi,
I have checked shop page opening in chrome console, network tab, and it shows 2000ms lag if gtm4wp is placed in header. So there must be some influence

The plugin itself can influence page load time if you have enabled specific features.

For example if you activate geo data and/or weather data then there will be a communication in the background with external APIs.

I am not saying there is nothing to do in GTM4WP itself, I just would like to first isolate where the issue could be rooted. If you could test page speed by turning off specific plugin features, I would be very grateful.
