• Hiya

My site has been slow for a while now, some pages more than others. But is it the server or my WP installation?

    The site is https://www.joe-music.net
    Plug-ins:
    Akismet (deactivated)
    All-in-one Event Calendar (Time.ly)
    Time.ly Updater
    Cool Video Gallery
    Enhanced Admin Bar (deactivated)
    Next Gen Gallery
    Stop Spammer Regs
    WordFence Security
    WP Super Cache

I’m on shared hosting, a plan with 5GB disk space and 50GB bandwidth per month, both of which are easily enough at present. But my cPanel tells me I hit max CPU many times during the day. It’s not clear what the CPU capacity is.

My site gets per month around 7.5K unique visitors, 25K visits, 700K page requests and 1.8M hits.

    Is it time for VPS?

Looking at it I think you can reduce the load time and make your site faster by working on some of the aspects.

Yes, looking at the data above and the CPU usage you mentioned, I think it is time that you upgrade hosting. Also, see if the security and support level given by your present host is good enough.

You can check whether there are any specific issues to address using y-slow https://developer.yahoo.com/yslow/

Regarding the CPU limits, your hosting company should be able to advise you about how they impose limits.
