• In general does external site security scanning done by such as https://sitelock.com or https://wpsecuritylock.com provide an adequate level of monitoring for malware and other site exploits?

As a WP site admin who does not want to be losing sleep at night worrying about potential threats – would you suggest paying an annual fee for one of these services?

    Thanks!

  • I’m not sure about you, But in general there are many ways that you can protect you data and your server from hacking.

You can do backups con jobs, Making your passwords harder would help too.

You can sign up for google’s webmaster tools that will tell you if google is detecting some sort of malware in your site.

You’re better off being with a good Linux host (not particularly GoDaddy and the rest of the cheap ones) and doing your own hardening: Hardening WordPress ? WordPress Codex. This looks useful, too: WordPress ? WordPress File Monitor ? WordPress Plugins

@thenet: Backups mean nothing in terms of security; one does need them to recover from a hack or a crash, but they do not prevent anything. And Google takes weeks to crawl sites and flag malware; by then, it’s too late.

@songdogtech thanks for the info – unfortunately my client is hosting on GoDaddy (I tried to “suggest” a switch, but to no avail). I’ll check out the File Monitor plugin.
