Site Runs Very Slow / Crashes

  • Hello,

    I have been developing this stie: thefitonmonroe.com for a client for some time now. For some reason, I consistently seem to have an issue with the site loading unreasonably slow or going offline. I have tried to work through every possible reason that has been detailed here in the forums, to no avail.

    The client’s hosting provider, GoDaddy, insists that the issue is with WordPress, which I’m not so sure of. I implemented all of the solutions that they offered, and it still doesn’t seem to work consistently.

    Has anyone had similar experiences with this and can offer some wisdom. I’m unsure of what is happening and this project is starting to become not worth it.

    I tried loading the site and after more than 1 minute of trying to connect, I ended up receiving a 500 internal server error.

    My suggestion would be to review the error log for the site. It may point to something that is hanging up. Maybe a plugin or something odd in the theme that is taking an unreasonably long time to complete.

    If you are unable to locate the error log, you may need to contact your provider directly and ask for their help to find it.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Esmi, I have previously followed all your suggestions and just in case, I went through and did them all again. Unfortunately the problem persists.

    John, your suggestion led me to something interesting. After searching through their GoDaddy Account on how to activate error logs, I found that they are on what GoDaddy refers to as “Legacy Shared Economy Hosting.”

    I searched around about this and many people have had success in switching to the new Grid based hosting option. Regardless, I have instructed my client to make the free switch to it, as it will at best fix the issue and at worst allow me to enable error logs.

    Has anyone heard of these server type issues with GoDaddy before. I am inexperienced with the company. The switch takes three days, so if I have any new info I’ll post it here in the hopes that it will be helpful.
