  • It is very heavy on images… the whole site is over 350KB.

Nice design, the colours go well together. Only the white text on the dark background is a bit hard to read, so you should better not have really long articles.

I have this habit of running my browser with a width of 800 or less pixels. Consequently I am always happy if a website tries its best to accomodate. Yours needs more than 950 pixels width for the horizontal scrollbar to disappear.

Nothing to worry. If the artistic effect is important to you, there is no way to shrink things. If however you prioritize usability, you may want to think about the width.

Moshu – Of course it’s heavy on images. I’m a photographer. However, discounting the galleries or entry-specific images, there’s a maximum of 180kb loaded at any given time. What kind of numbers would you suggest?

pifpafpuf – I feel it’s important to keep the blog pages sized the same as the galleries and keep a consistent thematic feel. The galleries need 200 px for the four thumbnail-wide menu, and 700 px to properly display a 500px-wide image. I suppose I could use 3 thumbnails per row, but that would only drop down 50 px.

Eighty percent of my vistors have 1024×1280 resolution or higher.

Nobody noticed anything wrong with the code? Layout was uniform in all browsers and platforms?

I should make it clear: I wasn’t thinking about any photos (since there are no photos on the main site – at least I couldn’t see any, just a cartoon); the design is based on images.
Who am I to suggest anything? ??
But these guys always have scary numbers https://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/
