Greetings! We had a web developer come in and redo our site via WordPress. The project is complete but unfortunately they will not provide additional support.

Problem is, the site does not show the navigation menu when using IE10+. The problem is, some people can see it while using IE and other not so much. I can’t seem to figure out what the problem is.

If anyone could provide a bit of insight, I’d truly appreciate the help. Thank you in advance.

Here is how it looks vs how it is supposed to look:

Edit: So very sorry, I completely forgot to link the website.

Is there any way you could link the webpage with the problem?

My apologies, I completely forgot to link the site. I’ve edited the original message and will post it below as well:

Does the issue persist on another machine? I can’t replicate it in IE11

It happens to everyone in our company (3 office locations) and anyone using a company issued laptop from their home internet connection. I’ve checked with several people in each of the offices and none of them seem to be able to see the navigation bar; it’s very perplexing!

I spoke to our IT company (Xantrion.com) and they mentioned that it was most likely tied to an error in coding because they could view it fine on their end as well. I had to do a remote session to actually show them how it was showing up on our machines.

An error in coding is the vaguest suggestion they could have given.

Do you have a way you can solidly replicate the issue?

Andrew, you’ve been far more responsive than they have, so thank you for that.

Unfortunately I haven’t’ been able to reproduce the error outside of our offices. It shows up perfectly fine at home on my personal PC. Yet when I try to view the site using IE when in the office, that’s when it’s problematic.

I thought perhaps they installed some type of block internally in their scripting, but I haven’t the faintest idea as to what they could have done.

That’s okay Hanna, it is a complicated issue that I don’t think your IT company knows the answer to.

I’ve been able to replicate the issue when using IE11’s emulation mode that pretends it’s IE7. That might not be their issue though

Do you have a larger image showing the issue? This one is quite small: https://postimg.org/image/dn169uaaj/

Yes, here is one taken just now from my PC using the newest version of IE11.

Something I just noticed – The odd thing is, when I click one of the sections on the frontpage (aga-ca.com) such as “Capabilities”, the menu appears at the top – albeit the opacity doesn’t seem to stay preserved.

Originally the developes changed the opacity to something like 50% but if you visit https://aga-ca.com/services/preconstruction/ on IE11, then it’s completely white.

I wonder if this addition has anything to do with it?

Also, do you see that in the screenshot, some of the rounded corners aren’t coming through: https://snag.gy/I0lW0.jpg ? Whereas if you view that in IE11 or any new browser, you will see a slight rounded corner on those rectangles? That’s a tell-tale sign that the person is using an old browser that does not support CSS3.

    Thread Starter Hanna

    (@hchung)

That’s very odd, I didn’t notice the corners either until you pointed them out. I just checked to see if there were any updates for IE but it said I have the newest version with all the updates.

So this isn’t something due to poor coding or css I guess? Or no workaround that I might possibly slip into the css sheet?

I think you’re not getting the real deal with the issue. I think the reported issue is not true in the real world…

I could replicate the issue in IE11’s built-in emulation tools when I used the IE7 option – which also meant I replicated the square corner effect.

So what I think is happening is that for what ever reason the company has some weird settings in their Internet Explorer browser that views pages in an old way, in a way that looks familiar with IE7 or below. Probably due to some security thing.

It is a bit rubbish that your top section disappears completely, but I don’t think this is a real issue for you – Unless a good section of your audience uses IE7. Do they, have you checked your Google Analytics for which browsers your users have?

I ran a poll a few months ago and there are probably only 5 (at most) people who use IE within the company of 75, so I don’t think it will be a problem. At this point, it might just be best to let those few users know they will need to access the site using Chrome & FF like the rest of us. Plus, as long as it doesn’t affect clients, I don’t think it’s too big of a deal.

I was hoping there would be a magical checkbox I would have to tic, but I guess nothing is that easy ??

Thank you so much for all of your help, I really appreciate the quick responses!
